About us
In Japanese Martial Arts, Karate, Aikido, Judo etc. are uniquely different and all these Arts come from Japan. Kali, Arnis, Escrima all come from the Philippines and just like the Japanese Martial Arts each one of them are uniquely different in their own way.

ShinKali focuses on the Art of “Kali” specifically understanding the Blade from Long to Close range. We believe the best way to understand a weapon attack is to understand the weapon`s movement and principles.

We focus on 2 main methodologies. The Traditional Filipino Martial Art of "Pekiti Tirsia Kali" and "Tri-V Formula".

* PEKITI TIRSIA KALI Kali is the indigenous fighting art of the Philippines. With its Cultural and Philosophical values its history traces back more than 1500 to 2000 years in the past. The Pekiti-Tirsia system of Kali is the family system of the Tortal Family. It is headed by the only sole heir Grandtuhon Leo Tortal Gaje, Jr. Right from the beginning Pekiti-Tirsia Kali convinces with its logical and consequent Self-protection System, which is based on the Strategic and Tactical application of Counter-Offensive concepts as defense.

An important part of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is its positive, life appreciating philosophy: To believe in Life, in Good Health, and to believe in Success. Full understanding of Pekiti-Tirsia as a living Martial Art leads to continuous improvement and continued adaptation of its methods to new demands. Because of this, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali today still is a valuable and practical Martial Art.
* TRi-V Formula is a condensed / accelerated lesson plan for the Pekiti Tirsia System. One meaning of Tri-V was simply recognizing that there are 3 V's in the shape of a triangle. The triangle serves as a template or guide for how we apply our footwork, our strikes, takedowns and targeting.

In the Tri-V formula you have one angle with your footwork, the second angle would be the angle of your attack, and the third angle would be your body structure, the angle you put your body to avoid the attack. Put together you have three defenses or "counter offenses" to each attack. Creating 3 attacks right before he tries to do one strike.

Tri or 3 is a significant number in and of itself which also relates to how many attacks we use to engage, the phases of an attack as well as a host of other references eg “Panabas (Slash), Puntadas (Thrust), Panapus (Finish)”. These are all parts of it as they are all parts of Pekiti Tirsia Kali.

What is Kali?
KALI - Is the Martial Arts from the Philippines. The word “Kali” is a combination of two other Filipino words. “Ka” comes from the root-word “Kamot”, which means “Hand”, and “Li” comes from the root-word “Lihok” which means “Motion”.
ShinKali trains in the Martial Art of Kali. Offensive/counter-offensive methodology which allows the practitioner to move more dynamically than a "defensive" mentality. With this mindset, practitioners are able to overtake an opponent much more effectively.
Our Purpose
To provide practitioners in Japan and Japanese practitioners who study Filipino martial arts with knowledge in not only the theory and techniques of Kali, but also deepen their understanding of historical and scientific aspects. It is hoped that this will contribute to the global development of the traditional culture and foster good will through Kali.
